The Municipal Council may designate such place or places within the City as public taxicab stands as, in its judgment, it may deem necessary and as may be required for the proper transportation of passengers.
A.
Each taxicab stand shall be marked with a suitable stanchion, which shall bear the legend that it is a stand reserved for taxicabs only, or words to that effect.
B.
Only taxicabs in such numbers as are designated on the sign shall remain at a public taxicab stand while waiting for employment, and only in single file, pointed in accordance with traffic regulations.
C.
No taxicab standing at the head of any such line shall refuse to carry any orderly person applying for a taxicab who agrees to pay the proper rate of fare. This shall not prevent any person from selecting any taxicab he may desire at the taxicab stand, whether it be at the head of the line or not.
D.
As said taxicab leaves the line with passengers, those behind shall move up, and any taxicab seeking a space at the taxicab stand shall approach the same only from the rear of the stand and shall stop as near as possible to the last public taxicab already in the line.
No taxicab driver shall stand in front of the entrance to any building within the prohibited space after his passengers, desiring to leave, have alighted, or attempt to stand in said prohibited space waiting for passengers.
No driver of a taxicab shall suffer or permit persons to loiter in or about his taxicab.
No vehicle other than a licensed taxicab shall stop on any public taxicab stand, except while loading or unloading goods, wares or merchandise or receiving or discharging passengers.
A.
No driver of a taxicab shall induce any person to employ the use of the taxicab by knowingly misinforming such person, either as to the time or place of the arrival or departure of any train or boat or as to the location of any hotel, public place or private residence within the City or as to the distance between any two points; nor shall any such taxicab driver deceive any person or make any false representation to him or convey any passenger to any other place or over any other route than that to which such passenger may have instructed said driver to go.
B.
Unless otherwise ordered, passengers shall be conveyed only over the most practical direct route to their destination.
[Amended 11-26-1986 by Ord. No. MC-2248; 4-9-1987 by Ord. No. MC-2289]
Every driver of a taxicab, immediately after the termination of any hiring or employment, shall carefully search such taxicab for any property lost or left therein. Any such property, unless sooner claimed or delivered to the owner, shall be reported, in writing, by the driver or taxicab licensee to the Police Department, with brief particulars and description of the property, within 24 hours after the finding thereof.
[Added 4-13-1995 by Ord. No. MC-3095]
A.
No taxicab driver shall operate a taxicab in the City of Camden unless said taxicab is being operated in compliance with N.J.S.A. 39:3-76.2a, requiring the use of child passenger restraint systems and/or rear seat safety belts, where appropriate, and as directed by statute.
B.
Any person guilty of violating this section shall be subject to the fines and penalties set forth in N.J.S.A. 39:3-76.2d.
